The Journal of Medical English Education (JMEE) is the official journal of the Japan Society for Medical English Education
(JASMEE). Members and non-members of JASMEE alike are invited to submit papers relevant to the teaching and practice of medical English to JMEE.
Authors should follow the published guidelines for authors
Please note that the guidelines have recently been updated, so even authors who have published with us previously should refer to them.
All submissions will be reviewed by two peer reviewers, who will forward their recommendations to the Editorial Board. The final decision as
to whether a paper will be published rests with the Board.
Authors should specify in their cover letter the kind of paper they are submitting. Papers are classified into the following categories:
-Original article (research)
Original articles (research) should report a research project conducted by the author(s). The Guidelines for authors state that
The maximum acceptable length is 24 pages, including the title page, main text, figures, tables, and references,”
but we would advise authors to keep the main text (not including title page, abstract, references, figure legends) of their
submissions to around 3,000 words. Authors submitting papers much longer than this are likely to be requested to shorten them.
-Original article (teaching methods)
Original articles (teaching methods) should describe and evaluate an innovative teaching method developed by the author(s).
-Short communication (research)
-Short communication (teaching methods)
Short communications are similar to original articles but are more limited in scope. They typically provide supplementary information
about previously initiated research/teaching methods. Again, we do not specify a word limit for short communications but offer 2,000 words as a rough guide.
-Letter
Letters should not, in principle, exceed 1,000 words. They can be on any relevant topic that is likely to be of interest to those involved
in the teaching, promotion, or practice of EMP, including, for example, comments on articles published in JMEE. A letter may contain no more than six references.
Please send your manuscript together with a cover letter by e-mail, following the instructions in the guidelines for authors, to the
JMEE Editorial Section at jasmee@narunia.co.jp.
Please also submit a completed Submission Form, which can be found in each issue of the journal. This form must be signed by all authors
and may be sent either in PDF format by e-mail along with the manuscript and cover letter, or on paper by regular mail to the following address:
